hairitage: salon I uses the language of Black hair to preserve the people, rituals, and ways of being that shaped my understanding of self long before I had the words for them.
the vessels began with my memories, but they aren’t simply portraits from the past.
together, they form an archive of self-definition, tracing the inheritances carried through hair, home, family, and community.
through them, salon I considers how the ordinary moments we inherit and carry forward shape not only who we are, but who we believe we can become.
