run wild explores what becomes possible when the parts of the self once treated as excessive, unruly, or ornery are allowed to lead.
a companion to genius child, the work also takes its name from the Langston Hughes’ “Genius Child” and examines freedom not as an escape, but as self-determination: to trust your instincts, follow your curiosities, imagine yourself beyond inherited expectations, and build a life on your own terms.
agency & autonomy.
self-authorship & self-determination.
the possibilities of Black womanhood.
the belief that you will find a way or make one.
what it holds
the crinkle of Wrap-It strips.
the smell of Lottabody and edge control.
the heat of a hooded dryer.
the clang and clack of Marcel curling irons.
face cards that never decline.
